Fishing

The Door Peninsula is one of the most diverse fishing holes you'll ever find.
Bass and perch on Green Bay and salmon and trout on Lake Michigan are the mainstays, but more than a dozen cold and warmwater species are targeted by scores of fishermen from across the country.
State catch statistics provided by charter captains and creel census clerks show that Door and Kewaunee counties typically combine to produce more than 150,000 salmon and trout each summer, nearly one-third of the entire Wisconsin total.
Yellow perch fishing is closed during the spring spawn, but reopens in mid-May and really heats up July through October from Sturgeon Bay to Little Sturgeon, especially.
Whether fishing from boat, pier, dock or shore, you can improve your chances of catching fish by doing your homework first.
Make connections with a bait and tackle shop, guide, marina operator or charter boat captain.
The Department of Natural Resources Service Center (920-746-2860), located on Sturgeon Bay's West Side waterfront adjacent to the Sawyer Park boat launch, is a good spot to visit. Be sure to pick up a copy of the state regulations and have all the required licenses, stamp approvals and permits needed.
