Jerry J. Prentice
Jerry J. Prentice, 60, Schofield, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009.
He was born Dec. 28, 1948, in Tomahawk, son of the late John and Myrtle (Sawyer) Prentice. On Dec. 16, 1967, he married Karen Brandenburg in Merrill. She survives.
Jerry joined the U.S. Army in 1966 and served for 23 years. His accomplishments include the honor of being on the color guard for Harry S. Truman, a drill instructor and retired as the 1st Sergeant for the Wausau Recruiting company, earning numerous awards for performance, including the Meritorious Service Medal.
While serving his country, he married his wife of 42 happy years and leaves a legacy of a man who loved God, his family and country. He was a man of few words and much action, and will be deeply missed by many. Some of his favorite pastimes included working on old cars, especially his '55 Chevy; woodworking, and spending time with his family. Jerry also worked as a truck driver for Kolbe and Kolbe Millwork.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Karen Prentice, Schofield; two children, Sara (Michael) Gosse, Merrill, and Andrew (Kim) Prentice, Streator, Ill.; his grandchildren, Katie Shepler, Brandon Henderson and Devin Gosse; his great-grandchildren, Avery Shepler and Addison Henderson; his siblings, John (Bev) Prentice, Merrill, Judy Paszek, Florida, Richard (Sharon) Prentice, Terry Prentice, Linda (Jeff) Annis and David (Tyler) Prentice, all of Merrill; and nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his half-brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at Christian Assembly-Assemblies of God Church, Wausau. The Rev. Brian Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, town of Maine. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Ave., Wausau, and again from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the church.
