Julia B. Bergner

Julia B. Bergner, age 90, of 5005 Vista Road, Manitowoc, former Mishicot resident, entered into eternal life on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at the Kindred Hearts Assisted Living Facility in Manitowoc.

She was born Feb. 9, 1919, in Colby Wis., to the late William and Caroline Schefchik Bauer and has been a longtime area resident. She was a graduate of the Colby High School. Julia married Woodrow H. Bergner on Aug. 12, 1939, in Athens, Wis., and he preceded her in death in June of 1969. In 1960, she owned and operated the former Dog and Suds Restaurant in Mishicot. Later, she worked as a chef at Fox Hills and as a cook for the Mishicot High School. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot, and was a member of the Altar Society of the church where she was treasurer for 12 years. She was a member of the Parish Council of Holy Cross for eight years. Julia taught C.C.D. classes for 11 years. She was also a Girl Scout leader and officer from 1950, until the time of her death. She received the Girl Scout Thank You Status in 1956, the Highest Catholic Award "St. Ann" in 1982.

Julia is survived by her children: James and Mary Bergner, of Mishicot; Tom and Teresa Bergner, of Manitowoc; Kay and Fred Yates, of Libertyville, Ill.; Jayne and Randy Strauss, of Manitowoc; her grandchildren: Rosalie and Richard Stuplich, Reverend Mark and Elizabeth Drengler, Torie Klein, Kim Klein and her husband Joe, Paul and Courtney Wachtel, Sara and Bryce Berger, Tom Yates, Jesse Bergner, Lee Straus, ENS Daniel Yates, Kyle Bergner, and his fiancee Jackie, Alex Bergner, Max Bergner, and by nine great-grandchildren. She is further survived by two sisters: Margaret Hollman, of Milwaukee; Marie Jastrow, of So. Milwaukee: a son-in-law, Gary Klein, of Oak Creek, Wis.; one sister-in-law, Bette Bauer, of Wis. Rapids; nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband Woodrow, she was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Margaret; a daughter, Mary Klein; and her grandson Nicholas Bergner.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at St. Francis of Assissi on Waldo Blvd. in Manitowoc, with the Reverend Daniel Schuster officiating, with burial to follow in the Holy Cross Parish Cemetery in Mishicot. Relatives and friends may call after 9 a.m. Monday at the church, until the time of service at 11 a.m. There will be no Sunday evening visitation.

The Bergner family would like to express a very special thank you to the entire staff of Kindred Hearts, for the past nine years of excellent care and to the staff of Holy Family Home Care Hospice for their special care given to Julia during her illness. Your kindness will always be remembered.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her name.

The Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home of Mishicot is assisting the Bergner family with funeral arrangements.
