Even the beer was forced to choose sides when two brothers tailgated in the Lambeau Field parking lot Nov. 1 before the Green Bay Packers-Minnesota Vikings game.
A Packers bottle suit cooler covered the brew of Justin Paul while older brother Nate Paul drank with a Vikings logo proudly displayed.
Justin Paul, 31, is from Eau Claire and said he doesn't know where the family went wrong.
"In our family we're all Packers fans except him. We just let him do his thing while we're cheering for the Packers," he said.
Nate Paul, 33, from Appleton, said there are Vikings fans in his extended family and he's loyal to his team.
"Vikings fans are a little more crazy," he said. "Last year at the Metrodome, we saw a fire pit in the back of a pickup truck."
The two have been tailgating for about nine years and take in one game a year, alternating between Lambeau Field and the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
Their sibling rivalry has always been civil and plays out more like a mild-mannered disagreement. Growing up, there were no noogies or hair pulling after the rival team won.
However, Nate Paul said he took some playful ribbing from his family.
"I'd be cheering and they'd be telling me to shut up."
Yeah, that sounds about right.
The brothers chowed on brats, and said tailgating is the calm before the storm.
"When the game starts, we definitely root against each other," Justin Paul said. "The whole thing with Brett Favre has fueled us up a bit."
Always one to rub a stinging loss (a purple-clad Favre winning at Lambeau, anyone?) in his brother's face, Nate is defined more by his hate for the Packers than his love for Minnesota. When Green Bay played Chicago in 2007, Nate said he went to the game decked out in Bears gear.
"I'm a Vikings/anti-Packers fan," he admitted.
