Freiburger, Robert G.
Robert G. Freiburger, age 69, New London, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, as the result of a motorcycle accident near Weyauwega. Bob was born on October 14, 1940, son of the late Bill and Pat (Newman) Freiburger. He attended New London schools graduating in 1957. Bob was united in marriage to Lois Ringstad on December 29, 1962, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Tigerton. He served with the US Army Security Agency from 1962-65. He worked in the family business, Freiburger's Garage for many years and then owned an Insurance Agency from 1972 until his retirement.
Bob served his community in many ways: member and past commander of the American Legion Norris Spencer Post 263, member of Most Precious Blood and Knights of Columbus, longtime member of the National, Wisconsin, and Fox Valley Associations of Insurance Financial Advisors, past member of the Association of Financial Service Professionals, member and past director of the New London Chamber of Commerce, former Cub Scout leader and district representative, past member and director of the Fox Valley Chapter of National Association of Investors Club, member and past president of New London Jaycees, member of Romeos and Calicoes Square Dance Club, and member and past officer of the Pioneer Chapter of the National Square Campers Dancers Association.
Bob was an ardent hobbyist. His passions included cars, motorcycles, planes, anything to do with vehicles, vintage postcards, photography, gardening, and woodworking. He loved camping and traveling. Bob and Lois were well known in state square dance circles. Above all else Bob loved his grandchildren and attended all their events: concerts, sporting events, and school activities.
He is survived by his children: Betsy Sullivan, New London; Brian Freiburger, Madison; Heidi (Donald) Van Ryzin, Appleton; and his grandchildren: Matthew and Heather Sullivan, and Edward, Samuel, Calvin and Lillian Van Ryzin. He is further survived by three brothers: Tom Freiburger, AZ; Mike Colburn, Green Bay; Bill Colburn, MN; and also, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and wife.
Funeral Mass for Bob will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, New London with Fr. David Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, military graveside rites will be held. Relatives and friends may call at the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London on Friday (TODAY), November 13, 2009 from 4-8 p.m. and also at the church on Saturday after 12 Noon until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to the Fox Valley Community Foundation for Freiburger Fund benefiting Most Precious Blood School.
