But for four local high school football teams — Appleton North, Kimberly, Brillion and Waupaca — they also represent the number of times they will have qualified for the WIAA prep football playoffs with state finals wins this weekend.
If Appleton North defeats Menomonee Falls at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in Division 1, the Lightning will qualify for the state final at Madison's Camp Randall Stadium next Friday for the first time in school history. North opened in 1995.
If Kimberly defeats Merrill tonight, it advances to the title game for the third consecutive year as it seeks its third straight Division 2 championship.
If Brillion downs Arcardia on Saturday in Division 5, it goes to the state title game for the fourth time. The Lions won it all in 1984, 2003 and 2004.
And if Waupaca is victorious over West De Pere on Saturday in Division 3, the Comets advance to the state final for the fifth time. Waupaca is the defending Division 3 champion.
