Prep volleyball: Amherst's Pitt, Tri-County's Detlor earn top honors

Most of the volleyball talent in the Central Wisconsin Conference this year centered in and around Stevens Point and that belief was enforced with the selections of the CWC-8 and CWC-10 all-conference teams, released last week.

The players of the year in each division were from local teams. Senior outside hitter Jenna Pitt of Amherst and senior middle hitter Megan Detlor of Tri-County.

Pitt was the top weapon on a Falcons team that repeated as conference champions. She became the second Falcons player in a row to be named CWC-8 Player of the Year, following Kate Glodowski in 2008. Pitt's season came to an unfortunate end in Division 3 regional play against Pacelli when she tore multiple ligaments in her right knee.

That Pacelli team, victims of three close losses to Amherst this season, wound up besting their rivals with five all-conference selections to four for Amherst. Where the Falcons had Pitt and junior Ashlee Trzebiatowski on the CWC-8 first-team, the Cardinals had senior Chelsea Ramczyk and junior McKenzie Dunigan.

Another positive for Pacelli looking ahead is that four of their all-conference performers are returning, compared with only two for Amherst -- Trzebiatowski and second-team middle hitter Shelby Serafin.

Iola-Scandinavia stands to return two of its three all-conference selections, including first-teamer Janelle Gerds.

Detlor helped lead a Penguins team that nearly caught CWC-10 champion Tigerton and finished tied with Rosholt for second place. She and T-C's other two selections were part of a group of seven seniors.

"We'd have been even more explosive had we had a clone of her," said T-C coach Jessica Rettler, who simply called Detlor "a momentum builder."

Detlor was the lone unanimous selection to the CWC-10 team. She and teammate Kacie Phillips, a first-team setter, worked together to keep points coming for T-C.

Rosholt, who led the conference in wins, wound up leading in all-conference selections with five, including senior Amanda Yenter and junior Chelsey Yenter, both first-team selections.

First-teamer Katie Schude led four selections for Almond-Bancroft, both she and Detlor were named to the CWC-10 first team for the second time.
