Herbert "Herbie" Barleben, age 79, of the Town of Poygan, died Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh. He was born June 7, 1930 in West Berlin, Germany, and in 1957 Herbie moved from Germany to Chicago. On May 31, 1958 he married Lore Hornig in Chicago where they made their home until 1972 at which time Herbie and Lore moved to Poygan. He was employed with J.I. Case in Winneconne from 1972 until retiring in 1996. Herbie was a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, Winneconne.

Herbie is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lore Barleben, of the Town of Poygan; two sisters, Gerda Sabrowski, and Emmi Passenheim, both of Germany; and many friends including the Palazzo and Adams families. Herbie was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Irmgard Freed.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 12 p.m. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, 8 S. Fourth St. Winneconne, with Pastor Mark Albrecht officiating. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Herbie's smile will be missed by all who knew him.
