UWSP faculty pianist to give recital
Assistant Professor Raffi Besalyan will perform “The Art of Romantic Etude” at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15. in Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
As a part of the Music Department Scholarship Series, tickets for this recital are $7 for the public, $4 for senior citizens, $3 for youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UWSP ID.
Besalyan will perform select Etudes-Tableaux and Preludes by Sergei Rachmaninoff, select Etudes by Frédéric Chopin, Four Etudes by Earl Wild based on George Gershwin’s songs and the solo version of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”
An Armenian-born pianist, Besalyan has taught at UWSP since 2008. He has been a top prizewinner in national and international piano competitions. As a winner of the Artists International Competition, he made his debut at Carnegie Hall in 2003, receiving highest acclaim. He has performed with orchestras in Japan, Italy, Armenia, Russia, Ukraine and the United States. In 2006 he recorded a CD of works by Bach/Busoni for Koch International Classics. He is a Yamaha Artist and earned degrees at Yerevan (Armenia) State Komitas Conservatory, Rowan University and the Manhattan School of Music.
