Lakeland wrestling team falls to UW-Stevens Point

SPECIAL TO THE PRESS

STEVENS POINT — The Lakeland College wrestling team failed to win a match after the opening bout en route to dropping a 40-3 decision Tuesday night against 17th-ranked UW-Stevens Point.

Freshman Cory Hildebrandt continued his hot streak in the lone Muskie win, knocking off Jordan Poirier 5-3 at 125 pounds. It was the fourth win in five matches this season for Hildebrandt.

Fellow freshman Ryan Renon was on the losing end of a 3-2 decision, his first loss after compiling a 4-0 record at this previous weekend's Muskie Duals.

Junior David May suffered the lone pin of the night at 184 pounds, falling in 1:47 to fourth-ranked Ben Engelland.

Lakeland forfeited at 285 as fifth-ranked Adam Sutter was inactive for the second straight contest. Sutter will make his 2009 debut at this Saturday's Knox Invitational.
