Insiders Blog: Green Bay Packers linebacker Brady Poppinga dealing with 'unusual swelling' in leg

Linebacker Brady Poppinga has "unusual swelling" in his injured leg, leaving his status unclear for Sunday's game against Dallas.

"His range of motion and everything is fine," coach Mike McCarthy said of Poppinga, whose quadriceps apparently flared up on Tuesday. "So, we're just being safe with him. He will see Dr. (Patrick) McKenzie again in the morning, and his practice participation will be determined then. I really don't know if he's going to be able to go or not."

That's especially significant because starting left outside linebacker Aaron Kampman's availability also is in doubt because of a concussion, leaving rookie Brad Jones to take the majority of reps with the starters in practice. Second-year pro Jeremy Thompson also has been working at the position.

In other injury news ...

* ILB Brandon Chillar (hand), TE Jermichael Finley (knee), Kampman, Poppinga and RT Mark Tauscher (knee) were listed as nonparticipants on the injury report for a second straight day.

* The only changes on today's injury report were to T Allen Barbre (concussion), WR Jordy Nelson (knee), QB Aaron Rodgers (feet) and CB Charles Woodson (hip), who all went from limited to full participation.

* Nelson looked good in practice today, took some returns in practice and "definitely has an opportunity to be up this week," McCarthy said.

* WR Jake Allen (quad), FB Korey Hall (calf) and DB Derrick Martin (concussion) were full participants again. DE Cullen Jenkins (ankle) remained limited.
