Free Thanksgiving dinner set Nov. 21

MANITOWOC — A free early Thanksgiving dinner for the community will be served from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 21 at Rosethorn Community Church, 1118 S. 10th St.

Citizens Academy reunion Wednesday

MANITOWOC — Alumni from the Manitowoc Police Department's Citizens Academy are invited to a reunion at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the department.

The academy was offered annually from 1996 through 2003, with 112 citizen "graduates." The purpose of the reunion is to help support a plan to again offer the Manitowoc Police Citizens Academy to the public.

The event is sponsored by the Citizen's Academy Alumni Association.

The schedule for the evening includes a tour of the police department, an update on local crime prevention by Sgt. Bruce Jacobs, a demonstration of the new computer technology available to officers in their squad cars and an opportunity to meet and talk with Police Chief Tony Dick. Refreshments will be served.

There is no fee to attend the reunion, but alumni are asked to RSVP by calling (920) 242-2900.

Calf care workshop coming to Chilton

FOND DU LAC — The Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin will bring several of the country's best calf-raising experts and researchers to Wisconsin for three one-day Calf Care Connection workshops. One of them will be Dec. 9 in Chilton.

Each workshop will provide dairy producers, professional calf feeders and heifer growers with the latest research, cutting-edge techniques and hands-on training, according to a news release from the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin.

The agenda for each workshop includes four presentations, three hour-long learning labs involving live calves, and an expert panel where questions can be asked.

Felician Village hosts Alzheimer's quilt show

MANITOWOC — "Alzheimer's: Forgetting Piece by Piece," a national quilt exhibit, will be on display to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the new Village Square at Felician Village, 1635 S. 21st St.

The work of 52 quilt artists from around the country will be represented in the exhibit. The exhibit tour started in August 2006 and will finish in October 2010; this is only its third stop in Wisconsin.

There is a $5 entrance fee to see the display. The Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative is a national organization whose mission is to raise awareness and fund research for Alzheimer's disease. Fish fry is Nov. 20

MANITOWOC — The Reedsville American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 199 will sponsor a fish fry from 4 to 9 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Manitowoc American Legion Drews-Blaser Post No. 88 clubhouse, 705 Jay St.

All profits go to support veterans, their families and American Legion Auxiliary programs.

Brass Roots Trio concert is Sunday

MANITOWOC — The Brass Roots Trio will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel at Silver Lake College, 2406 S. Alverno Road.

"Con Brio!" is the second in the college's 2009-10 Guest Music Artist concert series. The trio, featuring pianist Rosetta Senkus Bacon, trumpeter Travis Heath and French horn player Douglas Lundeen, will perform virtuosic showpieces, decadent tangos and symphonic sounds that melt into sultry jazz. Members of the trio have appeared at Carnegie Hall in New York and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., as well as cultural centers throughout the United States and abroad.
