Telling the Tales of Rosendale
Rosendale-Brandon School District The National Honor Society induction and reception will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. today, Nov. 9, in the Laconia High School auditorium and cafeteria, 301 W. Division St., Rosendale.
The 11th annual Just Jazz Concert under the direction of Mark Pieplow will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the Laconia High School auditorium.
Fall Sports Award Night is scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, in the Laconia High School auditorium.
The Brandon School Book Fair will be held on school days starting Monday, Nov. 16, through Wednesday, Nov. 25, and during parent events in the evenings at the school, 200 W. Bowen St., Brandon.
Ben Vis, Laconia High School's new choral music instructor, has instituted the district's first-ever conducting competition as a fundraiser for the choral music department. The community is encouraged to vote for the candidate who would be the most interesting to watch conduct at the first concert on Nov. 30.
The nominees are Elizabeth Crook (RB Player actress and School Board member), Gary Hansen (district administrator), Renae Lind (former children's choir director at Bethel Reformed Church, Brandon,), Kathy Schneider (Brandon School teacher's aide), and Jim Westphal (Bluemke's Hardware owner and Rosendale village president).
To vote, contribute any amount of money for the favorite candidate at Bluemke's Hardware, 101 W. Division St., Rosendale, Brandon Bank, 112 S. Woodward St., Brandon, or at Laconia High School's polling station, 301 W. Division St., Rosendale, during any athletic event from Nov. 16 through 28. Each dollar counts as one vote.
Art teachers Elizabeth Anderson, Laconia, and Barbara Bellmer, Brandon, will participate in the annual Sigma Holiday House from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds Recreation Center.
Students of the Month Laconia High School — Laconia High School Students of the Month for October are senior David Brown and freshman Julie Hopp.
Brandon School — The following October Spartans of the Month (and their teachers) from each elementary classroom were recognized during an assembly held Oct. 28 in the Brandon School auditorium. Nominations were based on the character trait "Responsibility."
Kindergarten — Logen Sullivan and Fiona Zimmerman (Torrie Grade).
First grade — Haley Rens (Mary Gillett); Andrew Beck and Ashley Pionke (Sandy Kuik).
Second grade — Clare Kelnhofer and Cora Williams (Lynn Alsum); Hayden Pucker (Jeanne Trew).
Third grade — Grace Leonard (Eric Bartelme); Rece Mulder (Mark Getz).
Fourth grade — Keegan Bruins and Jesse Guenther (Julie VandeBerg).
Fifth grade — Eli Ford (Jessica Buteyn); Payton Kastenschmidt (Mike Miller).
At a separate assembly, the following middle school students were named Spartans of the Month for October: Zakary Sharp, Grade 6; Rosie Forester, Grade 7; and Olivia Engelhardt, Grade 8.
Rosendale Intermediate School — Eighth-grader Dylan Schmitz, seventh-grader Keegan Madigan, and sixth-grader Daniel Ihrig are the October Rosendale Intermediate School Students of the Month.
Rosendale Rosendale Senior Card Players will play Sheepshead from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at the Municipal Building, 211 N. Grant St.
Peace Lutheran Church is hosting a Taste of Peace from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, in the Martin Lutheran Room at the church, 124 S. Main St. The ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) women have compiled a cookbook with 500 recipes from members and friends of Peace Church.
Tickets cost 20 cents each, and a designated number of tickets will be required to purchase samples of the 18 featured recipes at the Taste of Peace.
Tower View Villa — The public is welcome to attend any of the upcoming group events sponsored by Tower View Villa, 401 N. Grant St.: senior citizen cffee cutch, 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 11 and 18; Veterans Day service,: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11; dog visit, 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Wednesday, Nov. 11; and free community bingo: 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23.
Team Tower View Villa's six walkers, one cheerleader, and two grandchildren raised $710 of Fond du Lac's total $29,446 for the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk on Oct. 3.
Brandon Brandon Girl Scout Brownie Troop 8411 will host Sweets and Eats from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Garden Scents Everlasting Gift Shop, 107 E. Main St., Brandon. For this first Brownie bake-off, patrons will select their favorite Brownie desserts to determine who is the best baker of the Brandon Brownies.
Chili by the bowl and hot cider or hot chocolate will also be available. All proceeds benefit Brownie Troop 8411.
Eldorado Sheepshead (Jack of Diamonds) will be played at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Community Hall, N7664 County Trunk C. The fee is $1, and prizes will be awarded.
