The Marshfield Senior High School Class of 1949 celebrated its 60-year class reunion Aug. 21 to 23.
The classmates and their guests met at 5 p.m. Aug. 21 for an informal gathering at Clearwaters Hotel and Convention Center for hors d'oeuvres and renewing old friendships. That was followed by a seafood buffet and socializing.
The group assembled Aug. 22 at Clearwaters for registration, hors d'oeuvres and a reception, followed by a banquet. The welcome was given by Jan (Holubets) Thomas and the prayer of thanksgiving was given by John Wendt.
Al Schlecht and Jan Thomas served as emcees. Schlecht introduced the reunion committee which consisted of Jean (Graff) David, Cherie (Hughes) Krier, Marge (Stauber) Adler, Colleen (Dumas) DeJarlais, Herb Weber, Lois (Spencer) and Jim Herkert, Bev (Weiss) and John Wingert, Joan (Kerske) Williams and Jan (Holubets) Thomas.
Schlecht and Thomas reminisced about all the reunions in the past. The class has had a reunion every five years since 1954.
Herb Weber and Betty (Dutton) Byers were introduced and conducted a memorial service for the 54 deceased members of the class.
Joan Williams, Colleen DeJarlais and Marge Adler had the drawings for the door prizes. The grand prize was won by John Wendt.
Cherie Krier thanked those who went on the tour of the Laird Center, museums and Research Foundation, and $200 was collected for the Research Foundation from the 49ers.
After a brief business meeting, the classmates voted to hold another reunion in five years.
A class picture was taken, followed by the singing of the class song, "You'll Never Walk Alone." The rest of the evening was spent renewing old friendships.
