Fox Valley Veterans Day observances
Outagamie County veterans groups will present their annual Veterans Day observance on Wednesday in Appleton. The event begins at 10:57 a.m. when Appleton churches will ring church bells. A public ceremony begins at 11 a.m. when color guards from area veterans groups gather at the front steps of the Outagamie County Administration Building, 410 S. Walnut St. The Appleton East High School band and Fox Valleyaires Men's Barbershop Chorus will present musical selections. The guest speaker will be retired U.S. Army Col. Daniel McGraw. Seventh- and eighth-grade students will receive essay awards during the ceremony.
A Veterans Day observance will be held Wednesday at Fox Valley Lutheran High School, 5300 N. Meade St., Appleton. All military veterans and their immediate families as well as current military personnel have been invited for a complimentary breakfast served by the FVL Student Council beginning at 8 a.m. A Veterans Day service and program will follow at 9:15 a.m. in the auditorium. World War II Pearl Harbor survivor Clyde Stephenson will be the featured speaker. A video tribute is planned to highlight FVL graduates currently serving in the military. Those planning to attend the breakfast should call Fox Valley Lutheran High School at 920-739-4441 by Monday.
A Veterans Day program will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the New London Middle School gym. The school band and choir ensemble will perform and prose will be read to honor all veterans. The featured speaker will be Ken Jerabek, father of fallen Marine Private Ryan Jerabek of Hobart. The program is open to the public.
An all-school Veterans Day program will take place at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Most Precious Blood Catholic School in New London. Robert Bootz will be the guest speaker and tributes to current armed forces will be held.
A Veterans Day program featuring students in grades K-4 will be held from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday in the Hortonville Elementary School gym. All veterans are welcome to attend the ceremony. Those who plan to attend should notify the school office at 920-779-7911.
The annual Veterans Day program will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran School in Hortonville. The Fox Valley Lutheran Middle School Band will perform, along with the hand chimes choir and students in grades K-8. Refreshments will be served following the program. The community is invited to attend.
The Shiocton School District and American Legion will hold an assembly at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Shiocton High school to honor local veterans. Prior to the program, the student council will sponsor a free breakfast for the veterans.
St. Pius Elementary School, Appleton, will honor veterans on Wednesday. The event begins with a mass at 8:40 a.m., followed by military rites in the school parking lot conducted by American Legion Post 38. Veterans will be invited to a reception along with fifth-grade students. Fifth-graders will serve refreshments and interview veterans who are willing share information about their military service. An invitation has been extended to veterans known by the school's families, as well as St. Pius parish members.
American Legion Post 496 of Sherwood will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart School, Sherwood. Students will participate in the ceremony. Veterans will join the students for noon lunch.
