Alex P. Woelfel Jr., 80, of New Holstein, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Homestead Care Center.

He was born Jan. 13, 1928, in the Town of New Holstein, a son of the late Alex Sr. and Frances Fessler Woelfel

He graduated from New Holstein High School.

On June 7, 1950, he married Gladys L. Buechel at Holy Trinity Church in Jericho.

Alex and Gladys ran a dairy farm all their lives in the Town of New Holstein. He was also employed at Schildauer Feed Mill, Tecumseh Products, Pioneer Box, Langenfeld Mink Ranch and the Town of New Holstein. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein and a member of the New Holstein Knights of Columbus. Alex was the past president and life member of the Chilton Eagles Club and the I Love to Dance Club. He enjoyed his family, playing cards, driving tractors, sitting in his rocking chair on the front porch and most of all, his grandchildren.

Alex is survived by his wife, Gladys; and 12 children: Ron (Nancy Stenz) Woelfel, Sharon Woelfel-Nett, Lorrie (John) Buss, Dan (Gay Cardinahl) Woelfel, Dave Woelfel (special friend Lisa), Steve (Judy Weber) Woelfel, Ken (Kathy Pfiel) Woelfel, Keith (Tammy Starfeld) Woelfel, Sue (Steve) Quirt, Alex Woelfel, III, Kris (Julie Gaestel) Woelfel and Tammy (Dean) Joas; 30 grandchildren, Justin (Beth), Aaron, Jamie, Jessica, Shawn (Peggy), Melisa, Derek, Tracy (Arden), Tonya, Cathy (Kurt), Angie, Daniel, Jesse, Jeremy, Stacy, Stephany, Bradley, Isaac (Julie), Abraham, Josiah, Blessing, Matt, Ashley, Amber, Michael, Cassie, Jacob, Alyssa, Jody and Haily; 11 great-grandchildren, Lizzie, Alex, Aiden, Adeline, Kendall, Olivia, Hannah, Samantha, Taylor, Payton and Conner; five sisters, Margaret (LaVerne) Halbach, Eleanor (Kenneth) Klotz, Doris (Robert) Turba, Betty (Lloyd) Petrie, all of New Holstein, and Delores Kampfer of Chilton; one brother, Donald (Betty) Woelfel of Florida; one brother-in-law, Elroy Buechel; and two sisters-in-law, Edwina Freund and Loretta Grube.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Emelda Buechel; two brothers and their wives Paul (Olga) Woelfel and Clarence (Shirley) Woelfel; his brother-in-law, Jerome Kampfer; sisters-in-law and husbands, Dorothy (Reggie) Wienries, Lucille (Glen) Helgamoe, Lucinda (Roy) Olson, and Theresa (Bill) Meyer; and brothers-in-law, Leroy Buechel, Edmund (Elsie) Buechel, Sylvester Buechel, Clarence Buechel and Clarence Freund.
