MAYVILLE — A Fall River man who led police on an 18-mile chase through three communities with speeds reaching over 100 mph has been charged.

Peter Brockman, 24, was charged on one felony count of fleeing an officer during his initial appearance Friday in Dodge County Circuit Court.

A Mayville police officer was running radar in Mayville at 8:17 p.m. Thursday when he noticed a brake light out on a passing vehicle.

While the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver in the Oldsmobile Aurora sped away, driving through several intersections without stopping, with speeds reaching 80 mph, according to a police report.

The driver of the vehicle, Brockman, left Mayville and headed north toward the village of Kekoskee.

The pursuing officer, Ryan Vossekuil, noted that the man drove through Kekoskee at speeds of 110 to 115 mph, according to the report. The village speed limit is posted at 25 mph.

As the chase continued north, speeds increased to over 130 mph, with Brockman crossing the center line and passing traffic on Highway 49, the report states.

As the suspect entered Waupun, the vehicle was still traveling 90 to 100 mph. Brockman subsequently lost control of his vehicle, crashing into a curb and a retaining wall in front of a residence at 707 E. Main St., according to the report.

The vehicle, which lost one of its back wheels, came to a rest about 5 feet from the residence.

Along with assistance from the Waupun Police Department and Dodge County Sheriff's Department, Vossekuil deployed Mayville's K9 Frankie and chased the suspect through several backyards before losing track of him.

Waupun Police Chief Dale Heeringa said Brockman was taken into custody Friday morning after he was seen using a pay telephone at the Marshland Mobil gas station on East Main Street.

"The suspect initially denied being associated with the incident and told police that someone else must have stolen his vehicle," Heeringa said.

Brockman is incarcerated at the Dodge County Jail on a probation violation hold. Court records show the probation stems from a deferred prosecution agreement in a Columbia County case.
