As I drove past my high school alma mater, now home to Aldo Leopold School in Green Bay, the children were at recess.
Then I noticed the message on the school marquee: "Children are like cement – whatever falls on them makes an impression." I smiled and memorized the message to share with you.
Here's another one, from the St. Raphael Parish bulletin: "The Ten Commandments are not multiple choice." —The public is welcome to join members of Zion Lutheran Church when the Rev. Daniel Wissmann is installed as Visitation Pastor at the 9:30 a.m. worship service today. The Rev. Jeffrey Knoll will preside. Wissmann, who grew up on a dairy farm near Clintonville, has served parishes in Colorado, North Dakota and Illinois, and recently completed a chaplain residency program at BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, Ill. He earned his Master of Divinity degree from Wartburg Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Camille, a clinical pharmacist, have two grown sons.
—An art exhibit featuring work by Carrie A.S. Caldwell begins Saturday and runs through Nov. 16 at Father Carr's Place 2B. A reception for Caldwell is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the Mother Teresa Welcome Center. Additional viewing of the exhibit, "Visions in a Lifetime, A Retrospective," will be Sunday, Nov. 15, from noon to 6 p.m., and Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. You also are welcome to donate an unwrapped toy for Breakfast with Santa at The Place 2B.
—The St. Jude Parish Deer Widow's Craft Sale takes place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the gym at the Sacred Heart site. More than 20 vendors are scheduled. Doughnuts, coffee and lunch will be available.
—St. Raphael Parish is having a Community Blood Drive from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the bloodmobile in the parking lot, 830 S. Westhaven Drive. For an appointment, sign up outside the church office, or go online at www.save3lives.org. Walk-ins are welcome.

—Aware that some people in the congregation are allergic to fresh evergreens, All Saints Lutheran Church this year will purchase artificial trees and wreaths to decorate its sanctuary.
—The Knights of Columbus of Oshkosh is collecting, at the various parishes, gifts for seminarians for the holidays. Personal hygiene items, plus phone, gasoline and grocery cards, are among the suggestions. People are asked to donate the gifts before Nov. 22.
