Gene W. Pieper, 67, Lebanon, passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at the Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital, due to Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS).

Funeral services will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Lebanon on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Kelling and Rev. Charles Werth officiating. Burial will be in Ashippun Lutheran Cemetery in Ashippun.

Relatives and friends may call to pay their respects at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown, on Monday, Nov. 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials, in Gene's name, may be given to the charity of one's choice.

Gene Wallace Pieper was born in Watertown, on May 14, 1942, son of Wallace and Lillian (Christian) Pieper. He married the former Shirley Goecks at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Neosho on July 18, 1964.

Gene attended Grade School in Lebanon and was a 1960 graduate of Watertown High School. He was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard. Gene had been employed at Midas in Hartford, the Oliver Construction Co. in Oconomowoc, C.G. Schmidt Construction in Milwaukee, Mortenson Building of Milwaukee and was active in dairy farming. After his retirement, he was groundskeeper at Windwood Country Club in Watertown.

He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Lebanon where he served as an usher. Gene loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and loved helping others. He also loved listening to polka music on the Hartford radio station and going out dancing with Shirley. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, bowling, snowmobiling, water skiing and dart league.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Pieper, Lebanon; his children, Scott (Melissa) Pieper, Pound; Kristine (Jeremy) Navine, Lebanon; his parents, Wallace and Lillian Pieper, Lebanon; five grandchildren, Jacob Pieper, Zachariah Pieper, Alicia, Justin and Kassandra Navine; a sister, Debra (Clifford) Falkenthal, Hustisford; two brothers, Robert (Judy) Pieper and James (Janet) Pieper, both of Lebanon; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ervin and Ruth Goecks.
