Shepherd of the Bay awarded grant

Door County Advocate

The Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Ellison Bay received a 2009 Allyce Kopseker grant of $7,900 from the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation to support its Health and Wellness Ministry program services. The funds will be used to purchase medical and office equipment, advertising and educational materials.

The grant is designed to primarily serve northern Door County residents older than 60 by helping them receive medical information and remain in their own homes. These free services include telephone, office or home consultations with the parish nurse, Carol Stevenson, guidance and suggestions by a nutrition counselor Judy Reninger and a direct contact with new mothers and babies by an obstetrical nurse, Kristen Demarinis. In addition, weekly blood pressure screenings, twice-weekly Tai Chi for Health classes, and annual CPR/AED training are available to the public without charge.

A camcorder was purchased with the grant funds to create DVDs of the monthly Community Health Information Programs. The DVDs are delivered to homebound persons and also available to the public through the Health and Wellness Ministry library.
