I am a cave explorer and an active member of the Wisconsin Speleological Society.
I have been doing an extensive research project on the history of Horseshoe Bay Cave. This gated, mapped cave is more than 3,103 feet long. It is located in the bluff at Horseshoe Bay, about 2½ miles south of Egg Harbor.
While the cave could have been visited as early as 1879, the first recorded history on the cave in print is from 1896.
Does anyone have any early photos of the cave? I am particularly interested in the earliest known photo of the entrance to this natural cave. It could show just the entrance or the field and cherry orchard or whatever existed in front of the cave.
I merely want to copy any appropriate photos. I will note in my permanent records the source of the photo as well.
Thanks. I can be reached at (920) 743-6488 or by e-mail at garyksoule@hotmail.com.
