Salvation Army taking registration for Christmas assistance

NEENAH — The Salvation Army-Fox Cities will conduct its annual Christmas assistance registration for its Adopt-A-Family and holiday toy distribution programs next week.

Registration for Fox Cities families in need will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday; 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday; and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 13 at 647 S. Green Bay Road, the former Pick ’n Save store.

The registration is only for individuals who reside in Little Chute, Kimberly, Kaukauna, Combined Locks, Darboy, Greenville, Grand Chute, Larsen, Appleton, Neenah or Menasha.

To qualify for this free assistance program, applicants must bring picture identification, proof of income and Social Security cards for all family members, as well as proof of residency.

Spanish and Hmong language interpreters are needed to help clients during the process.

The Salvation Army-Fox Cities also will distribute thousands of donated winter coats to needy area children during its annual Coats for Kids program.

Last year, the Salvation Army’s Christmas assistance program, funded by the Red Kettles and public donations, provided 1,088 households with thousands of toys, books, puzzles and stuffed animals. Christmas food baskets and gifts went to 4,914 people, along with more than 5,000 winter coats. Another 180 adult households (262 individuals) were provided food baskets.

This year’s Christmas distribution for the Fox Cities will take place from Dec. 21-23 at 647 S. Green Bay Road for those who registered this month.
