Powers, Lucille R.

Lucille R. Powers, 98, passed into the loving arms of her Savior on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at Century Ridge, after a short illness. Lucille was born in Hilbert, Wisconsin, on December 23, 1910, daughter of the late George and Henrietta (Schwalenberg) Mathes. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Hilbert. Lucille was united in marriage to Edward Powers on June 2, 1951, in Washington. They resided in Portland, Oregon, where Lucille was employed at Jantzen Clothing for many years. Lather they moved to Bend, Oregon. Ed preceded her in death on March 2, 1986. Lucille later retired in Sun City West, Arizona, where she was very active at the Senior Center making crafts and socializing with the many friends she made in Sun City. In 1999, Lucille returned to the Chilton area to be near her family.

Lucille is survived by two stepdaughters, Pauline Peotter, Portland, Oregon, and Carolyn (Jerry) Haller, Bend, Oregon; one brother-in-law, Harry Strandt, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Ronald Schmidt of Chilton, Darlene Koehler of Chilton, Martin (LaVerne) Schmidt of Chilton, Harvey (Lou Ann) Schmidt of Chilton, Delbert (Joan) Schmidt of New Holstein, Eileen (Glenn) Beers of Seattle, Washington, Richard (Audrey) Schmidt of Chilton, Alan (Margaret) Krueger of Jasper, Georgia, Roger (Diane) Krueger of Crivitz, Jim Mathes of Hales Corners, DuWayne (Gail) Mathes of Onalaska, Virginia (Jerry) Dohr of Menasha, Rita Mathes of Hilbert, George (Gloria) Mathes of Green Valley, Arizona, Stan (Kathy) Mathes of Fond du Lac, and Mary (Jerry) Pagel of Chilton.

Lucille was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers: Leona (Martin) Schmidt, Loretta (Art) Krueger, Ruth Strandt, Edmund (Marcella) Mathes and Henry (Clara) Mathes.

Funeral Service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2009, at Ebenezer United Church of Christ (44 W. Washington) in Chilton with the Rev. Kathy Gloff officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Hilbert. Friends may call at church from 12 noon until 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2009, when the service will be held.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Pastor Kathy Gloff; Dr. Gene Tipler; Donna Kloehn and the very special staff that provided loving care to Lucille at Century Ridge; to the Calumet County Home Health Care/Hospice Staff, especially Bonnie, Karen, Chris, for their care and kindness, and to Wieting Family Funeral Home.
