Appleton names 174 AP Scholars

APPLETON — A total of 174 Appleton Area School District high school students and June graduates have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams.

The College Board's Advanced Placement (AP) program provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams.

About 18 percent of the more than 1.6 million students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.

The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on students' performance on AP Exams.

  • Three Appleton students qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average grade of 4 or higher on a five-point scale on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams. They are Richael O'Hagan and Luke Povolny from Appleton East High School and Stephanie Matz from Appleton West High School.

  • Fifty-five students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. They are:

    East: Christie Ahn, Allen Bettendorf, Yiqing Chen, Megan Christenson, Chelsey Denton, Max Feldkamp, Chelsea Giguere, Anders Knight, Mark Lindsay, Danielle Lynch, Katherine Marichal, Richael O'Hagan, Luke Povolny, Sara Schubert, Tristan Weiner, Brittany Zachek and Yuxiao Zhuang.

    North: Anna Berceau, Jacob Bergmann, Alyssa Buechel, Maxwell Davis, Wesley Davis, Kristen Diedrich, Bradley English, Eric Hagen, John Idlas, Courtney Klauck, Rachel Larson, Erin Oakley, Aubrey Rockman, Zachariah Sachs, Andrew Schoen and Kayla Simon.

    West: Jason Altekruse, Joshua Burton, Keith Christensen, Conor Dunlavy, Brynn Ehlers, Kassandra Fabbri, Bradley Hopper, Maxwell Hurley, Colton Karoses, John Luck, Stephanie Matz, Wilson Molitor, Taylor Patton, Tylor Rathsack, Kathryn Robertson, Nathan Ruffolo, Stephanie Schuldes, Alex Sorensen, Andrew Sung, Jordan Swanson, Lily Thompson and Aubrey Tschanz.

  • Thirty-four students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. They are:

    East: Kayla Arnold, Harriet Bertschausen, Stephanie Esker, Elizabeth Hallett, Jamie Limpert, Maureen McCann, Ian McQuistion, Melissa Nowak and Andrea Parmentier.

    North: Katherine Anderson, Melissa Cameron, Anaita Chindhy, Kathleen Detloff, Melissa Drezdzon, Ivan Fan, Adriana Gerhardt, Ryan Goggans, Tyler Jansen, Autumn Lemke-Rochon, Joseph Maule, Amber McKenzie, Sydney Petersen and Mariah Sachs.

    West: Andrew Alba, Ryan Albrecht, Margaret Butzen, Kimberly Helton, Tyler Juve, Casey Kelpinski, Alexander Kent, Danielle Laurent, Amanda Schmitz, Abigail Tschanz and Dylan Turnbow.

  • Eighty-five students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with grades of 3 or higher. The AP Scholars are:
