Dolores Capraro Engel
Dolores Capraro Engel, age 90, of Pascagoula, Miss., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, in Pascagoula, Miss.
She was born Oct. 25, 1918, in Shawano, Wis., to the late Paul and Antonette Capraro. She was a 62-year member of Eastlawn United Methodist Church in Pascagoula. She served Eastlawn as church secretary for 28 years and held many leadership roles. She loved her church friends and especially the women of the Mamie Kimbrough Circle. In 2004, Eastlawn honored her with the Founder's Day Award for her outstanding and faithful membership. Just recently the Handbell Choir honored her by naming the group "The Engel Bells."
Only second to our Lord, Mrs. Engel loved her family. For more than 50 years she cooked a special Saturday lunch for the entire family. Our fondest memories are from these special get-togethers. She loved attending all of the activities her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved in.
Being "grandma" was her very favorite thing, but her other loves include the Atlanta Braves, reading, crossword puzzles and needlework.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John Engel; and a daughter, JoAnn Sutherland. She is survived by a brother, Paul Capraro of Wis.; four grandchildren and their spouses; Ricky and Kim Sutherland, Cindy and Steve Haygood, Stephen and Naomi Sutherland, and Lea Ann and Barry Brooks; 12 great-grandchildren: Christy and Ernie Lewelling; Damian Sutherland; Derek and Nichole Sutherland; Tyler Sutherland; Brad and T J Brooks; Austin, Andrew and Adam Haygood; Brett Sutherland; Brittney and Bre Bradley; six great-great grandchildren: Nicholas, Michaelyn, and Carson Lewelling; Macie Lynd, Caden and Connor Sutherland; and many other relative and friends.
Services were held Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula with the Rev. Gene Vance and Rev. Pete Hearndon officiating. Interment was at Jackson County Memorial Park.
