Shingles found dumped illegally at county park

Wausau Daily Herald

RINGLE — A large pile of roofing shingles was found Monday dumped in the parking lot of a Marathon County forest, said Jon Daniels of the county’s Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department.

Shingles with nails and wooden parts of a roof were found at the Ringle Marsh Forest Unit off of Dallman Road, Daniels said. The pile is about 8 feet wide, 12 feet long and 3 feet high, he said.

“It looked like someone used a small dump truck or a flatbed and dumped it all in the parking lot,” Daniels said.

County parks have signs announcing that dumping garbage and debris is illegal. The pile partially blocks the driveway and is an eyesore, Daniels said. Park officials plan to remove the debris next week and are talking with companies about possibly recycling the shingles, he said.

Anyone with information about who dumped the debris should call the parks department at 261-1550.
