A statewide office that recently contributed to a renewable energy project in the Wisconsin Rapids area will garner as much as $350,000 in stimulus funds, U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced today.

Wisconsin’s Office of Energy Independence will receive the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to expand several statewide energy efficiency initiatives, according to a DOE news release. It will be one of two Wisconsin-based entities to receive a collective $15 million.

In August, the office granted the village of Port Edwards a $50,000 grant to study the feasibility of using hydrogen waste from ERCO Worldwide to produce electricity through the application of fuel cell technology.
