Veterans Day observances

  • Fox Valley Lutheran: A Veterans Day observance is planned Nov. 11 at Fox Valley Lutheran High School, 5300 N. Meade St., Appleton. Military veterans, their immediate families and current military personnel are invited for a complimentary breakfast served by the FVL Student Council at 8 a.m. A Veterans Day service and program follows in the auditorium at 9:15 a.m.

    World War II Pearl Harbor survivor Clyde Stephenson will be the morning's featured speaker. Principal Paul Hartwig will serve as the devotion leader. Senior Hans Houser, who recently enlisted in the Army, will lead the assembly in the pledge of allegiance. Also involved in the program will be Student Council leaders Derek Kempf and Brittany Kallies.

    The FVL bands, directed by James Neujahr, will play a medley of armed services hymns to honor those attending from all branches of the military. A video tribute is planned to highlight FVL graduates who are currently serving in the military.

    Anyone planning to attend the breakfast should make a reservation by Nov. 9 at 920-739-4441.

  • Bethlehem Lutheran School: Bethlehem Lutheran School, Hortonville, will hold a Veterans Day Program 1:30 p.m. Nov. 12, in the school gym on the corner of Nash and Embarrass Streets. Students in grades 1 through 8 will present songs including "Standing Up For Freedom" and play hand chimes.

    The Fox Valley Middle School Band and Strings will participate and will honor the veterans during the playing of the "Armed Forces Salute." Jim Foley of the American Legion will talk about those veterans who are missing in action.
