Riley celebrates 103rd birthday

Edna Riley, a resident of the Portage County Health Care Center, celebrated her 103rd birthday on Friday. A birthday celebration will be held on Sunday at the health care center.

A daughter of Otto and Agnes Oestrich, Edna was born Oct. 30, 1906, in Plainfield. She attended the Stevens Point Normal School (now the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point).

On May 25, 1937, she was married to Anthony Riley at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lanark. He is deceased.

Her children are Nedra Christensen of Waupaca, Mary Manetta Helbach of Stevens Point, Dean Riley of Waupaca, Richard Riley of Georgia and Sharon Kurzynski of Amherst. A son, Ronald, is deceased.

She has 30 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren.

Edna is a retired elementary school teacher. She taught from 1926 to 1973.

She enjoys reading, visiting with family and friends, and taking part in activities at the health care center.
