Thompson, Gary M.

Gary M. Thompson, Appleton, 51, passed away unexpectedly on October 27, 2009. Gary was born in Racine, Wisconsin on February 5, 1958, to Ward and Edwina Thompson. Gary owned several businesses throughout the years, but he loved his current business venture, GTI Installations, in which he installed mobile hands-free kits for police and sheriff vehicles, ambulances and public vehicles, and for numerous companies. (Making the road safer!) And trust us, with Gary's gift of gab we were all safer! Gary loved traveling, especially to Aruba, where he would soak up the sun, hit the casino and have a few Old Fashioneds. Gary appreciated a good joke and had a dry sense of humor that would make us groan ... but make us smile. Gary was a proud father and grandfather. He would tell you there was nothing better than watching his grandchildren play football, soccer, wrestle, cheerlead, and dance.

He is survived by two daughters: Jennifer (Shane) Van Handel and Stephanie Millay (John Svanda); a son-in-law, Robert Millay; four grandchildren: Trey, Paige, Spencer and Olivia; his former wife and best friend, Diana Thompson; a sister, Natalie (Jeff) Strohmeyer and their children Eric and Rachel, and by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; and by his special friend Tammi.

He was preceded in death his parents: Ward and Edwina (Flom) Thompson, Jerry Hoerning, Earl Sambs, and many aunts and uncles.

The funeral for Gary will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2009, at the Wichmann Funeral Home in Appleton, with Rev. Martin Ruge officiating. Interment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery in Ashland. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday afternoon from 4 p.m. until the time of the service.

Dad, I love you so much! You have taught me so many things about life and how family is important no matter what! I wish I had more time for one more hug! I send you lots of hugs and kisses! I LOVE YOU DAD FOREVER! Love, Jen

Dad, I want to thank you for all you have done for us. I would not be the person I am today without you, and am grateful for the time we were given with you. Always in my heart ... Stephanie

Gary, you will be in my heart forever, Diana
