Abandoned marijuana operation found in western Wisconsin

ALMA, Wis. — Authorities in western Wisconsin are investigating an abandoned marijuana operation where they believe $2 million of pot was harvested.
Buffalo County Sheriff Mike Schmidtknecht says the site is hidden deep inside the 13,000-acre Tiffany State Wildlife Area. He says a hunter stumbled across the site and found about 2,000 plant stalks and several summer campsites.
He says there were also minor booby traps all around, including rat traps and ropes at neck level.
Officers are looking for clues among the truckloads of garbage left behind.
It’s the third major marijuana operation found recently on public land. A hunter found about 8,000 plants this month in eastern Wisconsin. And last year authorities found another 9,000 plants in the northern part of the state.
