10 YEARS AGO: The 1999 Stratford Homecoming was held earlier this month at the high school. Members of the court were Andy Wiegel, king; Tara Fisher, queen; Andrew Chrouser, Kristin Koontz, Sharon Kirsch, Candi Leick, Craig Moeller, Cindi Kolb, Shannon Heeg, Craig Kann, Stacey Werner, Jordan Newmeier, Brianna McGuire and Jonathan Schweiger.
The East Fremont School kindergarten class at Chili recently visited the School Forest to experience the change of the seasons. After returning to school, the students made leaf etchings from fallen leaves.
25 YEARS AGO: Two-hundred people gathered Thursday to honor the Granton FFA chapter. Honorary charter membership was presented to Jane Hoesly, state Future Homemakers of America president from Granton; Vince Cullen, a local sign painter; and the First National Bank of Neillsville. Kuhl Implement received a distinguished service award.
50 YEARS AGO: A large modern structure, faced with brick and located on a corner lot to the east of the present General Telephone office building, is being erected by the General Telephone Co. in Owen. Construction is slated for completion in November.
75 YEARS AGO: The first Masonic dance of the season will be a Halloween dance on Nov. 1 at the Armory. The affair which will last from 9 p.m. to midnight, is being sponsored by the Royal Arch and Council of the Masonic Order.
