Fox Cities schools earn Wisconsin Promise School of Recognition honor

The Post-Crescent

Several Fox Cities schools were among 138 schools statewide to receive Wisconsin Promise School of Recognition honors for the 2009-10 school year during an Oct. 20 ceremony in Madison.

Appleton Area School District recipients were Badger, Columbus, Edison, Highlands and Horizons elementary schools. This is the third consecutive year for Columbus and second for Edison and Horizons.

Menasha's Butte des Morts and Jefferson elementary schools also were honored, along with Tigerton's elementary and high schools.

To be recognized, schools must be among those with the highest poverty rates in the state, have met adequate yearly progress goals under federal education law for the past two years, and have student achievement on state mathematics and reading assessments that is higher than schools with similar poverty levels and grade configurations.
