City-wide food drive starts Nov. 1

City of Plymouth employees will be conducting a food drive for the Plymouth Food Pantry from Sunday, Nov. 1 through Tuesday, Dec 1.

Collection boxes will be located at the Plymouth Library, Plymouth City Hall, Plymouth Police Department, Plymouth Senior Center and Plymouth Utilities. Residents are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to any of the locations.

The severe effects of the economic crisis and high unemployement means that more families are visiting the Plymouth Food pantry than a year ago. The Plymouth Food pantry distributes items to those in need two times a month and is the second-largest food pantry in Sheboygan County.

All non-perishable food items will be accepted, but the following items are requested by the Food Pantry: peanut butter, canned meat, macaroni and cheese, toilet paper, spaghetti sauce, canned fruit, baking products, tuna, pasta, flour and sugar. Cash donations are also welcomed at any of the drop-off points and checks can be made out to the Plymouth Food Pantry.

Employees will be at the Plymouth Piggly Wiggly store on Saturday, Nov.7 from 9 to 11 a.m. collecting items and providing shoppers with lists of the requested food items.

For more information on the food drive, contact Plymouth police chief Jeffrey Tauscheck at (920) 893-6541.
