Nicolet School participated recently in the fourth annual Hat Parade for the Heavely Hats Foundation. The students and staff raised $43 to help cancer patients. Proceeds from this event go to help pay for the shipping of new headwear for cancer patients.

Earlier this month, Maplewood held the first of its several student intervention days. Students focused on character- building activities and it was a fun day for all.
The eighth-grade class spent an afternoon bowling at Sabre Lanes, building friendships among its peers.
The Menasha Joint School District's Spanish Department will host its second communitywide celebration of the Mexican holiday "Dia de los Muertos" (Day of the Dead) on Monday. This celebration is one of the most revered and festive events in the Mexican culture. It will be celebrated in the high school fieldhouse. Students will tour the exhibit from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. More than 200 schools, universities and technical colleges have been invited. The evening celebration, open to the public, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. The mariachi performances will be at 6 and 7 p.m. The entire event is bilingual and free of charge.
Last month, students in Mrs. Bergstrom's fifth-grade class took a field trip to Ledge View Nature Center in Chilton. The students learned about caves and how they were formed by groundwater and glacial melt water. They also learned about various types of rocks, bats, and other creatures that live in the caves year-round. The best experience for the students was crawling through the caves and discovering stalactites and stalagmites.
A special day for the families of Trinity took place Oct. 16. Grandparents and special guests arrived in the morning and were welcomed with a special chapel service led by the students, followed by a program. The students organized music, plays, skits and a trivia contest. Grandparents visited classrooms and finished the morning with lunch.
Many students participated in the bake sale at St. Gabriel's Craft Sale last weekend. They also sold food at the concession stand. The money from this sale goes to their Washington, D.C., trip fund.
Fourth-graders went to Gringon Mansion in Kaukauna for a fall harvest program. Students learned what it might have been like to live in Wisconsin back in the 1800s.
Fall parties are being held in every classroom today. Healthy treats were featured during the parties. There will be no school on Thursday and Friday.
Stephanie Feuerstein visited Hoover recently to discuss with students how plants survive the cold winter months. The lessons taught were developed specifically for the Hoover Habitat Area, thanks to the help from third-grade teacher Jill Dujardin and Mrs. Feuerstein. Teachers were given the outline and participated in the demonstration, along with the students. The goal is to have all students visit the Hoover Habitat at least once a year to put a hands-on aspect to the learning that is happening in the classroom.
Mrs. Mallmann's first-grade class at Lakeview participated in Reading is Fundamental (RIF) day activities. Students listened to a story, "The Three Bears Halloween," created a spooky Halloween picture, worked on puzzles, colored pictures and picked a prize. RIF is sponsored by Lakeview's PTO and coordinated by Mrs. Hultman.
Mrs. Bohannon's fourth-graders and Mrs. Bau's fifth-graders went on an all day field trip to 1000 Islands Environmental Center in Kaukauna.
Grandparents' & Retired Friends' Day was held last Wednesday. The event included classroom activities and a musical performance in the gymnasium.

Mrs. Rudd's kindergarten students at Tullar spent a week living the life of a Monarch butterfly. As a culmination to a life cycle unit watching caterpillars turn into Monarch butterflies, the newly minted Monarchs were released into the air.
The National Honor Society and Wilson school teamed up at a recent Neenah High School football game to collect donations for Coats for Kids. Wilson students Dylan Sommerfeld and David Fredrickson also helped with coat collections and collected monetary donations totaling $76.39 to put toward the purchase of new coats for children in need.
On Oct. 10, Shattuck and Horace Mann staff took part in a golf outing at Westridge Golf Course to help raise money for middle school students who cannot afford yearbooks. Staff members and spouses braved the cold weather while raising $350 for students. The event was organized by teachers Brian Borchardt and Steve Treankler. Members of the first-place team were: Duane Henke, Ryan Anderson, John Meyer and Jon Fleming.
The Middle School Drama Department hosted its annual fall dinner theater party last Friday. All Shattuck and Horace Mann students were invited. A pizza dinner and social time was followed by taking a bus to Pickard auditorium to watch the Neenah Rocket Players perform the hit murder-mystery musical "Curtains."
The National Honor Society participated in a collection for the "Coats for Kids" program during a recent football game at Neenah High School. NHS students Luke Scudder, Becky Kriha, Amanda Sigl and Caitlin Pilon collected coats. Donors received a dollar off the price of admission to the game.
The FVCA Drama Club provides students in grades 4-8 with an opportunity to develop and enhance skills in the performance arts. Included are a variety of exercises and learning experiences culminating with participation in a Christmas drama. Teacher Larry Hren is the Drama Club director.
Fox Valley Lutheran High School in Appleton will host eighth-grade registration nights from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 2 and 5. All interested parents and students are invited to attend. Students will register for classes as well as have the opportunity to have their questions answered on athletics, co-curriculars and finances. Tours will be offered. Fourth-graders are learning instrument assembly and tone production. They also will learn how to play "Mary Had A Little Lamb." All fourth-graders are expected to practice a minimum of 15 minutes a day, five days a week.
Prekindergarten children visited the Special Memories Zoo in Greenville. The children were very excited to see some new additions to the zoo family and the other animals that have always been there.
The kindergarten students have been focusing their attention on nocturnal animals in science. They, along with the preschool class, had the opportunity to learn about bats from a naturalist with the YMCA.
St. Mary Central will host a basketball coaching clinic on Nov. 7 in the Ralph McClone Gymnasium. The clinic will feature two of the most successful coaches in Wisconsin basketball history: Dick Bennett and Mike Heideman, with on-court demonstrations provided by the Ripon College men's team.
