Neenah golfer excels in national event

The News-Record

A Fox Valley golf team that includes Beth Weishaar of Neenah took fourth place in recent the national Executive Women's Golf Association Championship in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

The Screamin' Eagles — made up of team captain Pam Fritz of Appleton, Tami Vosters of Kimberly, Weishaar and Lori Mirwald of Green Bay — battled through massive storms with rain delays, standing water, and cart path only rules to end the day with a 71.

The second day of the championship was hot and humid with temperatures above 95 degrees, and the team turned in a 73 to finish six under, with a combined score of 138. First, second, and third place scores in the championship were 131, 134 and 135, respectively.

The EWGA Championship is considered one of the world's largest golf tournaments, attracting more than 2,400 players in 2008 and 2009. The field had 205 competitors, representing 102 EWGA Chapters from 37 states and Canada, competing in five flights of individual stroke play and a scramble team division.

The EWGA was founded in 1991 as a format for women to learn, play and enjoy golf for business and fun.
