Run/walk raises $2,000 for Little Chute windmill

Post-Crescent East

LITTLE CHUTE — The Volks(op)loop 5K Run/|Walk, with an additional donation from Vanderloop Shoes Inc., raised $2,000 for the Little Chute windmill project.

About 100 walkers and runners participated in the 3.1-mile event, which took place Oct. 10.

The 5K began at Legion Park and took participants past the future site of the windmill, which will be located at the corner of Main and Monroe streets.

The event was sponsored by Vanderloop Shoes Inc. and New Balance Fox Valley in Appleton. The name of the event translates in Dutch to “people coming together to make something happen.”

Vanderloop Shoes hopes to make the run/walk an annual event to kick off the Kermis Dutch Festival and raise money for the Little Chute Windmill, Amy Damro of Vanderloop Shoes said in a news release.

The $2.8 million, 100-foot structure is being built in Holland and is on schedule to arrive in parts in the spring. Officials project the structure will attract 25,000 visitors annually.
