LITTLE CHUTE – A Little Chute native and army sergeant was killed Monday in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.

Nickolas Mueller, a 2002 graduate of Little Chute High School, was a member of the U.S. Army’s 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment and a crew chief on a Chinook helicopter.

David Botz, administrator for the Little Chute Area School District, said Mueller was the homecoming king in 2001, a football player and a wrestler. He was involved in band, choir and musicals.

“He was a typical high school boy.” Botz said. “He was very involved and well liked. He had a lot of friends.”

Botz said Mueller is seven years removed from high school, though well remembered.

“It’s very tragic to lose someone at a young age,” Botz said. “It does have an impact on a school of our size whether he graduated last year or 10 years ago.
