Murphy, George H.
George Howard Murphy, 82, passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009. He was born on May 11, 1927, the son of the late Howard and Georgia (Edwards) Murphy. George was raised in Haslett, Mich. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After serving his country honorably, George attended and graduated from the University of Michigan with his Bachelor and Masters degree in chemical engineering. He worked for Union Carbide Viscase Corporation for 36 years until his retirement.
George was a proud leader of Boy Scouts for over 50 years, as well as a Hunter's Safety Instructor for 30 years. George had a passion for collecting ammo cartridges. Beyond his collection, he authored two books based on his hobby.
George is survived by his wife, Virginia Murphy; his loving children, Terrence (Deborah) Murphy, Neenah; Colleen (Timothy) Noethen, East Troy; grandchildren, Tiffany, Michael, Emily, Patrick; and sister, Mary Ellen Ottarson.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the staff at Brewster Village for all of their love and support for George.
