Forestville Village Board Trustee Terry McNulty reminds residents about a meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Village Hall/Library in Forestville. The meeting is the first public hearing on the Smart Growth Plan and trustees also will discuss options for rehabilitating the village sewer system.

Vendors sought

The Southern Door FFA Alumni is accepting reservations from vendors interested in exhibiting in their annual Tractor and Toy Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 29 at Southern Door High School. Vendor tables can be reserved for $10 each by calling Mike Larson at (715) 347-0824 or Cathy Massart at (920) 495-6421. Proceeds of this event will go to support activities of FFA Members at Southern Door High School. Mark your calendars and make plans to attend. This is a great activity that includes food and refreshments. Admission is $3 per person. Those age 10 and younger are admitted free of charge.

Children's Store accepting donations

Each year, numerous businesses and individuals from Door County generously donate items so that more than 350 youngsters can visit the Children's Christmas Stores held at four locations in November and December. The stores are hosted by the Family Centers of Door County with the help of more than 40 volunteers. With the assistance of Santa's elves, children age 4-12 are allowed to shop and wrap gifts priced from $1-$15 for family members while mom and dad wait outside. These items are new inventory and are valued at far more than the asking price. This activity teaches children valuable lessons about giving, making choices and budgeting. No child is turned away for inability to pay.

Four Forestville-area residents are instrumental in the success of the project. Managed by volunteers Connie Hale, her daughter, Rachel, and mom, Delores Brown, with assistance from Diane Jome, countless hours are spent in preparation for the four stores. While monetary donations are accepted, the group is asking community members to contribute new items to increase their inventory. Particularly needed are items for men and teens. Hunting socks, fishing lures, golf balls, tape measures, tools, and work gloves for guys are needed. Also, board games, iTunes gift cards, card games, headphones, and bath and body products for teens. Call the Family Centers at (920) 825-1430 to arrange pickup or dropoff of donations.

One family that participated last year stated, "My kids could hardly wait to give us our presents last Christmas. They were so proud of their choices and it was a real cost savings for us as well."

I'll include information in the coming weeks about the dates and locations of the stores . Or, log on to www.doorcounty familycenters.com to learn more.
