Yesterday in Marshfield

10 YEARS AGO: Ella Gardner, local artist, won the Creative Souls Art Guild Award at the annual meeting of Wisconsin Regional Artists Association in September for her acrylic work, "Family Gathering."

Presented with flowers and a balloon, Eagles member Zeta Uttermark was honored Sept. 4, 1999, her 100th birthday. Arlene Varney, representing the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, presented the gifts.

25 YEARS AGO: On Nov. 3, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Zillmer of Fairchild, formerly of Greenwood and Granton, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with a noon dinner for immediate family and relatives. Open house will be at the Wild Cat Inn, Neillsville. They were married Nov. 3, 1934, in Neillsville by the Rev. William A. Bauman.

50 YEARS AGO: A fireman and a police lieutenant were promoted by the Marshfield Fire and Police Commission at a meeting recently held. John J. Nelson is now captain in the Police Department and Harold Ploen, a lieutenant in the Fire Department. The appointments were made on the recommendation of Fire Chief Verlyn Ziegahn and Police Chief Walter H. Wohlfahrt.

75 YEARS AGO: Proof that summer is working a double trick this year continue to pour in from all sides. Flowers continue to bloom everywhere, many people are still enjoying tomatoes and other vegetables from their gardens as heavy frosts continue to avoid central Wisconsin.
