Lincoln County 4-H celebrated National 4-H Week from Oct. 4 to 10. Local 4-H clubs placed promotional displays throughout the county. To wrap up and continue the promotion of 4-H, Lincoln County 4-H and UW-Extension hosted Project Discovery Day on Oct. 10 at the Lincoln County Service Center in Merrill.
The day offered 4-H and other community youths a chance to learn skills and explore the many opportunities available through the 4-H program in Lincoln County. Nineteen adult and youth instructors from the area shared their knowledge with 39 youths and one adult. Topics covered a wide variety of projects, including an introduction to the shooting sports, using old utensils to create an outdoor wind chime, learning to make bead animals, weaving a basket, creating an outdoor scarecrow, learning about flight through experimenting with various paper airplanes, creating fall indoor decorations, and making personal towels using crayons and an iron.
Project Discovery Day is a great example of life skills such as decision making, problem solving, communication, teamwork that youths are learning through their 4-H projects and other opportunities.
Watch for more information about a second Project Discovery Day to be held in March or April in Tomahawk.
Lincoln County 4-H is open to all youths in kindergarten through one year after high school graduation. Becoming a 4-H member is free, but there are minimal costs for participating in countywide activities and some individual clubs require dues.
