The following trick-or-treat hours will be observed:

  • Almond: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 31.

  • Amherst: 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 31.

  • Amherst Junction: 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 31.

    Arts Alliance to air festival films

    As the fourth annual Central Wisconsin Film Festival approaches, the Arts Alliance of Portage County will broadcast the films from last year's film festival on Community TV (analog Channel 95 and digital Channel 984).

    The entire lineup of films will run in its entirety as follows: 8:30 p.m. Oct. 23; 9 p.m. Oct. 24; 7 p.m. Nov. 2; 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. Nov. 3; and 7:30 a.m. Nov. 4. The program includes a variety of short films, documentaries, animated films and dramas. Many of the featured filmmakers are from Wisconsin. Some are professionals, while others are students. All films were chosen by a jury.

    The 2009 Central Wisconsin Film Festival will be held Nov. 6 at the Jensen Community Center in Amherst, Nov. 7 at Rogers Campus Theater and Nov. 8 at The Garage at Emy J's. For more information, go to the Web site at www.cwfilmfest.org.

    St. Brons site of blood drive

    PLOVER -- The BloodCenter of Wisconsin will hold a blood drive from noon to 5 p.m. Monday in the Joseph Room at St. Bronislava Catholic Church, 3200 Plover Road, Plover.

    Donors must be at least 17 years old (16-year-olds can donate with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. The entire process takes about an hour, and all blood types are needed. Donors should bring a photo ID.

    SPARTA to hold used book sale

    The Stevens Point Area Retired Teachers Association will hold its annual fall used book sale Oct. 28 to Oct. 31 at CenterPoint MarketPlace. Hours are 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 28, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 29 and 30, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 31.

    Items for sale will include books, children's books, compact discs, videotapes, magazines and more.

    SPARTA uses proceeds from the sale to fund requests from many local organizations.
