Police investigate debit card fraud

About $20,000 in unauthorized debit card withdrawals have been reported to the Marshfield Police Department since the complaints began Oct. 12, said Joe Stroik, police chief.

"To date there's an excess of 20 complaints," Stroik said, all of which were transactions at ATMs in the greater Milwaukee area from Oct. 10 to Oct. 12.

Debit card and personal identification numbers were taken from card readers at Hancock Fabric stores in Marshfield and Stevens Point. It appears to be a group of suspects, and there has been similar activity involving Hancock Fabric stores in California, Washington, Oregon and Utah, Stroik said.
