Evelynn A. Nelson

Evelynn A. "Mickey" Nelson, 74, of Withee and Willard, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at the Oakbrook Health and Rehabilitation Center in Thorp after residing there since Oct. 2, 2009.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at Holy Family Church in Willard. The Rev. Joseph Follmar will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in the town of Hixon.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen and Saturday at the church in Willard from 9 a.m. until time of services. Acting as her pallbearers will be Sig Nelson, Clinton Simenson, Kory Wehrman, Sam Olson, Kyle Hansen and Peter Hubbard.

Mickey was born Dec. 31, 1934, in Medford, the daughter of Sigfred and Goldie (Clarkson) Rothmeier. She attended grade school and graduated high school, both in Medford. Following her education, she worked in Marshfield at the local dime store and later at Northern Auto as a bookkeeper. She was married Sept. 3, 1955, to Morris "Sam" Nelson in Stetsonville. Evelynn began raising her family and also worked at the Owen-Curtiss Bank. She was later engaged in farming along with her husband, Sam.

Mickey was a member of Holy Family Church in Willard, the Holy Rosary PCCW in Owen and the Longwood Homemaker's Club. Evelynn was a dedicated wife and mother, and she enjoyed crossword puzzles, going for walks and working in the garden.

Evelynn is lovingly survived by her husband, Morris "Sam" Nelson of Withee; her children, Scott (Marion) Nelson of Withee, Kay (Gary) Wehrman of Withee, Kathy (Joseph) Teschler of Withee, Steve (Wendy) Nelson of Eland, Karen (Dave) Jones of Merrill and Todd (Sarah) Nelson of Withee; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by a brother, Alfred (Margie) Rothmeier of Medford; her longtime companion, her cat "Miss Kitty"; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Evelynn was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bernie and Pete; and one sister, Loretta.
