Rodney Lavergne Armour

Rodney Lavergne Armour, 78, of Waite Park, MN, died Oct. 18, 2009.

Rodney was born July 26, 1931, to the late Myron L. and Orma (Heineck) Armour in Rochester, MN.

He graduated in 1949 from Dodge Center High School in Minnesota and went on to attend the University of Minnesota. Rodney served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict from 1950-1954.

He married Virginia Jacobson of Brownsville, WI, on July 11, 1955, at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac, WI.

Rodney spent his entire life in the agriculture-related business. He was part owner of Jacobson's Farmer Supply in Brownsville, WI; the western regional manager of Custom Farm Services, Clear Lake, IA, a division of Cities Service Oil Company; secretary and treasurer and past president of the National Dry Bean Council; past president and vice president of North Central Bean Dealers Association; past president and general manager of Lakeland Bean Company; vice president and general manager of Seed West, Inc. and Twin Valleys Seed Co. in Twin Falls, Idaho; manager of Agri Sales of Olivia and Appleton, MN.

Rodney was a member of American Legion Post 428, Waite Park, MN, and a member of Salem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud, MN.

Rodney is survived by his wife, Virginia; children, Linda (Gene) Sorensen of Waterbury, NE, Steve of Alexandria, MN, and Eric (Amy) of Sartell, MN; grandchildren, Ana, Matthew, Aren, Andrew and Leah Armour and Daphne Drake; two great-grandchildren; and siblings, Allen, Rollo and Evalyn Langworthy.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, William and Myron, and sister, Jean LaPorte.

  • Services: Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Salem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud, for Rodney Lavergne Armour, who died at the St. Cloud Hospital on Sunday.

  • Visitation: Friends and relatives may call after 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the church. Reverend Wayne Anderson will officiate. Burial will be on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. at Oak Park Cemetery, in Mondovi, WI.

    Arrangements are being handled by the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in St. Cloud, MN.
