Arden H. Bartel, 93, Appleton, passed away at home with his loving family at his side Friday, October 16, 2009. He was born in the Town of Wolf River to Otto and Martha (Zander) Bartel on November 23, 1915. Arden was united in marriage to Germaine Goerl on February 20, 1943. He was a farmer and then became a self-employed truck driver until his retirement.

Arden was a longtime member of Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church, Appleton. He enjoyed fishing, square dancing, camping, bus trips to the Casinos and playing canasta and sheepshead.

Survivors include his three children: Gary Bartel, Appleton; Byron (Dawn) Bartel, Menasha; Carol (Hugh) Sloan, Neenah; grandchildren: Todd (Brenda) Bartel, Chad (Patti) Bartel, Shelbi (Ronald) Ross, Eric Sloan, Kevin (Lucinda) Sloan; four great grandchildren: Zachary and Elizabeth Bartel; Taylor and Jordan Ross; sister, Velda Laflex, Neenah; brother-in-law, Kenneth Bigelow, Oregon; step grandchildren: Doug (Helen) Brammer, Vicki (Jeff) Moran and Shawn (Margie) Vanderlois; step great grandchildren: Alexis, Holly, Danyelle Brammer; Travis and Kelly Moran. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends.

Arden was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Judy; three sisters: Dorothy, Annie and Lydia; two brothers: Willard and Alfred.

Funeral services for Arden will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2009, at Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church (530 W. Parkway Blvd) Appleton with Rev. Darin Aden officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may visit the family Sunday from 4 -7 p.m. at church and again Monday from 10 a.m. until time of services.

The family wishes to thank the 3rd Floor Collaborative Care Unit at AMC and Theda Care at Home Hospice for their wonderful care of dad.
