Ephraim: 'Guys & Does' tickets still available

By Diane Kirkland

Fall Fest is here, and the foliage is cooperating. Door County looks beautiful in with fall colors.

'Guys & Does'

If you loved American Forklore Theatre's "Guys on Ice," you'd better rush to see "Guys & Does," as there's only a week left of their performance at the Ephraim Village Hall. Because it's so popular, tickets are dear (not deer!), so call ahead.

Book talk

The monthly discussion group at Ephraim Moravian met last week to revisit our bucket lists. At 7 p.m. Nov. 19, we'll talk about books we've read about overcoming hardship — be it John Steinbeck or any author of your choice. Everyone is invited, so mark it on your calendar.

Cleanup day

The grounds cleanup day at Ephraim Moravian will be Oct. 24, so if you just haven't had enough of yard work and would like to do a good deed, bring a rake and gloves and help out.

The next Loaves & Fishes free dinner at St. Rosalia's is coming up from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27. No need to call ahead to say you are coming; just drop in for some great food and good conversation.

From the past

More tidbits from Zahra Lapp's Advocate column from the mid-1960s:

  • It was just about this time of year in 1965 that the Ephraim Historical Foundation announced plans to restore the Pioneer School. The village was purchasing the Anderson Store, and the foundation also had plans to restore that as a museum. So, the first two museums have been up and running for more than 40 years now!

  • On the 1960s social scene, Dr. David Stevens attended the dedication of the Lawrence University Athletic Bowl. The captain of the 1905 team threw in the official football (David Stevens was manager of the team in 1905). Verna and Harold Wilson spent a few days visiting cousins at Presque Isle. Harold "did a little fishing and would have done more, but the weather prevented it." And "Little Ann Chomeau," daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Chomeau, visited her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henri Chomeau, and Fred Kordon had returned after an extensive trip to Germany, Sweden and Denmark.
