Forestville Town Board chairman resigns

Edson Stevens, chairman of the Forestville Town Board for nearly 20 years, has submitted letters of resignation from the Town Board and from the Southern Door Fire Department Board, of which he also was chairman. In a brief letter, Stevens cited health reasons.

Forestville Town Clerk Ruth Kerscher said Stevens took his oath of office as town chairman on April 21, 1990. He had been re-elected every two years since then.

"The Town Board is looking for someone to take his position," Kerscher said Friday. One of the two town supervisors may be interested, she said. If either Gerald Uecker or Miles Zastrow were to move into the chairman position, Kerscher said there still would be the need to find a town resident to assume the vacant Town Board seat.

In addition, Kerscher said the Town Board also would need a town resident to volunteer to serve out Steven's term on the Fire Board.

The Town Board will meet Monday night at the Town Hall in Maplewood to discuss.
