I was reminiscing the other day with some older residents about the dances that used to take place at the Forestville Ballroom. While the facility has not been in operation for many years, a lot of people have fond memories of past weddings, class reunions, showers and other parties there. It was not uncommon for people back in the day to go dancing every week at the local establishment. Television shows like "Dancing with the Stars" have made ballroom dancing more popular of late, but many fans that enjoy the pastime are at a loss when it comes to finding a place to kick up their heels.
Justine Mancheski, coordinator of programs for the Family Centers, has planned a social outing that provides a chance for both experts and novices to enjoy ballroom dancing. "A Night Under the Stars, Ballroom Dance & Evening Social for Couples and Singles" will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Music & Arts School, 606 N. 12th Ave. in Sturgeon Bay.
Whether you're single or have a partner to share the evening with, you are in for a treat. The night will begin at 7 with appetizers, beverages and entertainment by musicians Rick Gordon and Mick Maloney, "The Elderly Brothers." Then, at 8, dance instructor Cheryl Hoffman will teach a few easy ballroom dance steps, followed by dancing and a social until 10 p.m. The cost to attend is $15 per person. Advance reservations are required. Call (920) 825-1430.
